Ruprecht Irish Stew – Costco Review

I picked up Ruprecht’s Irish Beef Stew from Costco on a night when I needed something easy and hearty. It seemed like a great no-fuss dinner option—just heat and serve. The portion looked generous, and honestly, I love a good beef stew. While it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t mind-blowing either.

The flavors leaned heavily on the carrots, which made it a little sweeter than I expected. The beef was tender, the carrots were soft, and I actually liked the addition of pearl onions. But in the end, it didn’t quite hit the spot for me.

    Taste and Texture

If you love carrots, this stew might be for you, because that’s the main flavor here. The broth is thick, with a mild beefy taste, but the sweetness from the carrots really stands out. The beef itself is nice and soft, not dry or chewy, which is a win.

The carrots are cooked all the way through—no crunch left, just soft bites that melt into the stew. I did appreciate the pearl onions (at least it felt like they were pearl onions lol), which added a little extra texture and sweetness. Overall, it’s a mild, slightly sweet beef stew with a thick consistency.

    Preparation (Heating)

Super easy to make, which is a huge plus if you’re short on time. Here’s how I heated it:

    • Stovetop: I poured it into a pot and warmed it over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    • Microwave: If you’re in a hurry, a couple of minutes in the microwave will do the trick.

Either way, it’s a heat-and-eat meal, which is always nice when you don’t want to cook.

    Nutrition

It’s a hearty meal, and the portion is pretty generous, but it’s also a bit high in sodium like most pre-made meals. The beef provides a good amount of protein, and the veggies make it feel a little more balanced than other ready-made meals. If you’re looking for something light, this probably isn’t it, but it’s filling and comforting.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Super easy to heat and serve
    • Beef is soft and tender
    • Pearl onions add a nice touch
    • Great portion size

    Cons

    • Carrots dominate the flavor (for me)
    • A little too sweet for a beef stew

    Location in Store

I found this in the refrigerated prepared foods section at Costco, near the other ready-to-eat meal options like pot roast and meatloaf.

    Final Verdict

This stew definitely gives off St. Patrick’s Day vibes, so if you’re looking for an easy, festive meal without making one from scratch, it could be a decent option.

If you’re looking for an easy, no-effort meal, this stew gets the job done. It’s warm, comforting, and has a nice, thick consistency. But the heavy carrot flavor and sweetness weren’t really for me. I think I’ll skip it next time, but if you’re really busy and need something quick and filling, it might be worth a try.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (⅗) – Decent, but not a repeat buy for me.
