Suji’s Golden Bao with Pork Review

Whenever I go to Costco, I like to check out the freezer section to see if there’s anything new and fun to try. Last time, I found something I hadn’t seen before: Suji’s Golden Bao with Chinese-style 5-spice Pork. The bag looked interesting, and since my family loves dumplings and anything filled with meat, I decided to give it a try.

Before I show you what they look like cooked (you’ll see a photo below), let me tell you a few things we noticed. We really like them!

I cook them in the air fryer because that makes the bottom crispy while keeping the top soft and fluffy. Also, just so you know, the bao are a little sweet, which surprised me at first—but we still enjoyed them a lot.

    What Is Bao?

If you’ve never had bao before, it’s a type of soft bread roll that’s filled with tasty things like meat or vegetables. It’s a little bit like a dumpling, but with more bread around the filling.

These bao from Costco are filled with pork and come in a 24 oz package with on ebag that contain 6 baos. 1 Bao is 1 serving. That might sound like a lot (or not), but if you’re feeding a hungry family, they’ll go fast!

    How I Cook Them

There are a couple ways to cook these bao. The bag says you can steam them or microwave them. But in my house, we love using the air fryer. It’s super easy. I put them in at 320°F for about 10 minutes, and they come out perfect.

There’s no sauce included, but you can dip them in soy sauce, chili oil, or even sweet and sour sauce if you like extra flavor.

    How They Taste

The first thing I noticed when I took a bite is that the bao is soft and fluffy on the outside. The pork inside is juicy and flavorful, and like I mentioned earlier, the dough has a bit of sweetness to it. It’s not super sweet like a dessert, but just enough to notice.

That sweet and savory combo works well together, and the pork has a nice balance of seasoning. It’s not spicy or too salty, which makes it good for kids, too.

    What My Family Thought

My kids really enjoyed these. My daughter liked how soft they were and asked if we could buy them again. We ended up finishing all 6 in one sitting, which tells you a lot!

They’re also great as a quick after-school snack or a weekend lunch when you don’t feel like cooking something complicated.

    What’s Good and What’s Not

    What We Liked:

    • Easy to cook, especially in the air fryer
    • Juicy, flavorful pork inside
    • Slightly sweet, which makes them fun to eat
    • Great for kids and adults

    What We Didn’t Like:

    • Only 10 bao in the bag—it goes fast!
    • No dipping sauce included
    • If you don’t cook them the right way, they might turn out dry

    Where to Find Them

I found these in the freezer section at Costco, near the other frozen dumplings, Bibigo Kimchi Rice Balls and appetizers. If you see a row of potstickers or Asian-style foods, you’re probably close!

Final Thoughts: Would We Buy Them Again?

Yes, definitely! These are now one of our favorite freezer items from Costco. They’re easy to make, tasty, and fun to eat. The air fryer makes them even better, and the sweetness gives them a special twist.

Next time I go to Costco, I’ll be picking up another bag. I just wish they came in a bigger pack because 6 bao disappear way too fast in my house!

If you’re looking for something new to try, especially if your family likes dumplings or buns, I think you’ll enjoy these too.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4 out of 5 stars)
We really like them, especially in the air fryer.
