Vacation Classic Lotion SPF 50 Review

The Vacation Classic Lotion SPF 50 is the buzzy beach-vibes sunscreen that's been all over social media this year, and Costco now sells it as a two-pack of 6 fl oz bottles. It comes in the brand's signature retro packaging and lives in the seasonal aisle alongside summer essentials. If you've been trying to justify the splurge, the Costco bundle is the way to do it — you're basically getting two bottles for what one costs at Sephora or Ulta. While you're stocking up for the pool, you might also want to peek at my Costco Shopping Hacks for more "buy in bulk and save" wins.

    Quick Take: A cult-favorite SPF 50 sunscreen at Costco prices — coconut-vacation scent included. Verdict: Buy. Scores: Performance ⅘ · Value 5/5 · Convenience 5/5 · Stockpile Score ⅘.

    First impression

I'll admit, I bought these because I'd seen them everywhere — and because they smell like a real summer vacation in a bottle. The first whiff out of the tube is coconut, banana, and that sweet sunscreen smell that's basically nostalgia for poolside afternoons. It rubs in easily, doesn't leave a sticky residue, and the SPF 50 protection is solid. My kids actually ask to put it on, which is unheard of in our house. That's the bar I'm working with.

    Price & value

The 2-pack of 6 fl oz bottles runs about $17.99 at Costco (occasionally on sale for $13.99 after a $4 off). At Sephora or Ulta, a single 6 oz bottle of Vacation Classic Lotion is around $22. So Costco gives you two bottles for less than the price of one at most other retailers. The math is absurd in the best way. If you use sunscreen regularly — pool days, beach trips, daily wear — this is one of the better summer beauty deals in the warehouse. A 12 oz total supply easily covers a whole season for one or two people, longer if you're disciplined about reapplying.

Performance, scent & how it goes on

The lotion is smooth and a little creamy — not greasy, not watery, somewhere right in the middle. It rubs in clear with no white cast, which makes a big difference if you have darker skin or you're wearing it on your face. The SPF 50 is broad-spectrum, so you're getting both UVA and UVB protection. Water resistant up to 80 minutes, which is the standard for "good beach sunscreen."

Dermatologist tested moisturizer for optimal skin hydration and soothing relief.

The scent is the whole identity of this brand. Coconut, banana, a little vanilla and aloe — it really does smell like vintage beachside lotion. Some people love it, some find it too sweet. Test it on your wrist first if you're scent-sensitive. The smell fades within an hour, but the first 20 minutes are very much "I'm on vacation now."

For application, use more than you think you need. A nickel-sized amount per body part is the standard recommendation, and most people under-apply. Reapply every 2 hours when you're outside, sooner if you've been in water.

    What other shoppers are saying

Costco shoppers consistently praise the value compared to retail pricing and the way the lotion smells — multiple reviewers say it's become their go-to family sunscreen. The most common complaint is the scent itself: a vocal minority finds the coconut-banana combo too sweet or too perfumey, and a few people note it can transfer onto clothes or beach towels if you don't let it dry fully. A note for anyone with fragrance sensitivities: this is not the unscented option you want.

Who it's for & best uses

This is for anyone who does beach days, pool days, or outdoor summer activities with the family. Also a great pick for vacation packing — two bottles split easily between travel bags. It's a Buy for moms tired of buying overpriced sunscreen at the resort gift shop, dads who don't want to think about brands and just want something that works, and anyone planning a beach vacation.

Skip if you need a fragrance-free or mineral-only sunscreen, if you have very sensitive skin (test first), or if you don't get outside much in summer. A good summer-essentials pairing: hit the pool with this on, then come home and make a homemade Ninja Creami Dole Whip for the perfect tropical day-in-a-box.

    The scores

    • Performance — ⅘. Solid SPF 50, broad spectrum, water resistant, rubs in clean.
    • Value — 5/5. Two bottles for less than one elsewhere — genuinely one of the best Costco summer deals.
    • Convenience — 5/5. Easy to apply, no white cast, travel-friendly bottle size.
    • Stockpile Score — ⅘. Long shelf life, family-friendly, summer-essential. Half a point off because sunscreen is seasonal — you'll use it heavy for 4 months, light for 8.

    Verdict: Buy

A solid Buy — if you've been curious about the Vacation brand, this is the way to try it without paying boutique-store prices. The lotion performs well, the smell is genuinely vacation-coded (in the best way for most people), and the Costco 2-pack pricing is hard to argue with. Not a Repeat-Buy in the strict sense because sunscreen lasts a long time — but once you finish a bottle, you'll likely buy this brand again. A summer-cart staple.
